Mitchell Kennedy spent his childhood on Cape Cod after moving there from Virginia, where he quickly developed a connection to the environment and community. As a young student, he worked with local natural resources, gaining early exposure to conservation practices and learning about the systems that protect habitats. His summers were spent in oyster farming, where he saw how shellfish improve water quality and protect shorelines. These experiences gave him practical skills and an appreciation for sustainability, which stayed with him.

Mitchell continued his education in New York City, where he enrolled at Baruch College to study Philosophy. His coursework encouraged him to think critically about ethics, social justice, and how policies influence daily life. While studying, he volunteered his time and joined student organizations, which helped him gain firsthand experience in community engagement. Living in the city expanded his perspective and taught him how diverse groups interact within larger policy, economy, and culture systems.
